Wine Review: Nga Waka Sauvignon Blanc 1999, Martinborough

Say what you want about aged New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, this wine goes the distance!

Many believe that NZ Sauvignon Blanc must be drunk within the first couple of years, but Sauvignon Blanc from quality producers can easily last 10 years on careful cellaring.

The Nga Waka Sauvignon Blanc 1999 from Martinborough is one of these wines. The wine has obviously changed from release but has all the fruit still present with a beautifully balanced acid structure.

Hints of marmalade, honey, and other tropical delights fill the air and translate well on the palate. The texture is reminiscent of Sancerre and the balance would make Libra proud.

Go get yourself some aged Sauvignon, even if from only 2007!
