Waipara Wine
I am always amazed at the quality of wine coming out of Waipara, just 45 minutes north of Christchurch. It is a relatively new, but exciting, wine region. Some of the top names in Waipara are Pegasus Bay, Mountford Estate, and Black Estate.
The Black Estate Pinot Noir 2006 is firm with well structured fruit and tannin and a slight bit of earthiness to it. The 2004 was sublime to drink late last year and this is a step up from that wine.
If you can find this wine then I recommend you buy it at $10 less than your average Central Otago Pinot.
